Historic drawings, your colours, printed to order.
ArtSource makes recolourable art prints. The catalogue spans three lines: technical drawings from historic patents (the 1876 Bell telephone, the 1958 Lego brick, the Wright brothers’ flying machine), brush-written Japanese calligraphy, and typographic prints of curated quotes or your own words. All of it is in the shop.
What makes them different is the recolouring. Every artwork is built as separately colourable layers, so you choose the line colour and the background (and a splash colour on calligraphy) and watch the print update live before you order. The same drawing can be a quiet ink-on-paper study or a bold statement piece; that choice is yours, not ours.
Patent drawings are one of the great overlooked archives of design. For more than two centuries, anyone filing a patent has had to submit precise technical drawings, and those filings are part of the public patent record. We work from the original filings, redraw each artwork as clean vector linework that stays sharp at any size, and verify the result against the source. Every product page states the patent number, the year and the inventor, so the provenance is checkable, not decorative.
The calligraphy line uses brush glyphs by Yuji Boku (released under the Open Font License), keeping the visible stroke order and dry-brush texture of hand calligraphy. The typographic line is set as vector type at print resolution, never rasterised text.
Nothing is printed until you order it. Each print is produced on 200 gsm enhanced matte art paper with archival pigment inks (giclée process) at the print facility nearest to you, with hubs serving the UK, the US and most of Europe. Framed prints use a classic moulded gallery frame with shatter-resistant acrylic glazing. Made to order means no warehouse stock and no waste, and it is why every colour combination can exist: your print is made for you, in your colours.
ArtSource is a trading name of Voll Studios Ltd, an independent studio registered in England & Wales (company no. 09302803), based in London. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any trademark owner; our patent prints reproduce historic drawings from the public patent record, presented factually with their filing details.
