Both men lean in at once, one reaching down for the other's belt, the other braced and pushing back, so their arms and legs make a lattice of long diagonals down the sheet. Katsushika Hokusai designed it around 1790 to 1793, signing as Shunro, in the tall hosoban format, and brushed the names of Takaneyama Yoichiemon and Sendagawa Kichigoro across the pale sky. It is a woodblock print in ink and colour held by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which releases it into the public domain. Hung beside the Wadagahara print it makes a well matched pair. Printed to order at gallery scale in its own fixed palette.
Printed on 200 gsm enhanced matte art paper using archival pigment inks (giclée process). Framed prints use a classic moulded gallery frame in your chosen colour finish; the glazing is shatter-resistant acrylic. Made to order for you, in your colours.
