Table VIII brings Clara back. The Indian rhinoceros who toured Europe in the 1740s stands side on behind the figure, her heavy folded hide filling the middle of the plate, while the figure in front is taken down to the deepest muscles and bone. Jan Wandelaar drew Clara from life when she was exhibited in Leiden, and Albinus kept her in the book, published there in 1747, partly because she was a sensation and partly because she made the plates unforgettable. The Wellcome Collection holds the copy used here, marked public domain. With its partner plate it makes a memorable pair. Printed to order at gallery scale in its own fixed palette.
Printed on 200 gsm enhanced matte art paper using archival pigment inks (giclée process). Framed prints use a classic moulded gallery frame in your chosen colour finish; the glazing is shatter-resistant acrylic. Made to order for you, in your colours.
