The numeral is the fireworks display: a huge flat red 4 packed with white stars, set against loose grey-blue stripes that stand in for the flag, with one small firecracker bursting in mid-air beside it. It advertised the July 4th celebration at Downers Grove during the DuPage County centennial of 1939, and the Library of Congress sheet still carries its June 1939 date stamp on the back. Screen printed by WPA poster artists, it shows how far the workshops could push a civic announcement toward pure graphic design. Now in the public domain, it brings a punch of red to a kids' room, a garage wall, or an office that could stand to lighten up. Printed to order at gallery scale in its own fixed palette.
Printed on 200 gsm enhanced matte art paper using archival pigment inks (giclée process). Framed prints use a classic moulded gallery frame in your chosen colour finish; the glazing is shatter-resistant acrylic. Made to order for you, in your colours.
