Table V of the muscles is the first of the back views and shows the outermost layer: the broad sweep of the shoulders, the long muscles either side of the spine, the calves in full relief. Jan Wandelaar posed the figure like a classical statue, arms held out, and set it among rocks, a stream and overhanging trees, so the body reads as part of the landscape rather than a specimen. Albinus published the atlas in Leiden in 1747, and it was admired for this combination of accuracy and elegance for a century after. The Wellcome Collection's copy, marked public domain, is the source. Dark, rich engraving that holds its own on a large wall. Printed to order at gallery scale in its own fixed palette.
Printed on 200 gsm enhanced matte art paper using archival pigment inks (giclée process). Framed prints use a classic moulded gallery frame in your chosen colour finish; the glazing is shatter-resistant acrylic. Made to order for you, in your colours.
