Clara was an Indian rhinoceros who toured Europe from 1741 and became a celebrity, and when she was shown in Leiden Jan Wandelaar drew her. Albinus then let him put her into the atlas, so Table IV of the muscles pairs an upright figure, stripped to its deep muscle layer, with a rhinoceros lowering her head to graze in a leafy garden. The contrast of the slender figure and the armoured animal is what people remember. The plate was published in Albinus's Tabulae sceleti et musculorum corporis humani in Leiden in 1747, and the Wellcome Collection holds the public domain copy used here. It is a talking point on any wall. Printed to order at gallery scale in its own fixed palette.
Printed on 200 gsm enhanced matte art paper using archival pigment inks (giclée process). Framed prints use a classic moulded gallery frame in your chosen colour finish; the glazing is shatter-resistant acrylic. Made to order for you, in your colours.
