Muybridge photographed animals from the Philadelphia Zoological Garden for the wild animals volume of Animal Locomotion, and the elephant is the most endearing of them: a steady walk laid out frame by frame, so the order in which the great feet lift and fall can be followed along each row. The sequence was made between 1884 and 1886 and published in 1887. The repeated grey silhouettes make a pattern that works as well for a child's room as for a study. The Metropolitan Museum of Art holds the plate and releases it into the public domain. Printed to order at gallery scale in its own fixed palette.
Printed on 200 gsm enhanced matte art paper using archival pigment inks (giclée process). Framed prints use a classic moulded gallery frame in your chosen colour finish; the glazing is shatter-resistant acrylic. Made to order for you, in your colours.
