The sequence builds row by row: the canter, the gathering stride, the horse rising with forelegs tucked and the rider leaning forward, then the landing on the far side of the rail. Eadweard Muybridge made it at the University of Pennsylvania between 1884 and 1886 and published it in the horses volume of Animal Locomotion in 1887. The light backdrop and the evenly spaced frames give it the clarity of a diagram and the pace of a film. The Metropolitan Museum of Art holds the plate and makes it available as public domain. A fine choice for anyone who rides. Printed to order at gallery scale in its own fixed palette.
Printed on 200 gsm enhanced matte art paper using archival pigment inks (giclée process). Framed prints use a classic moulded gallery frame in your chosen colour finish; the glazing is shatter-resistant acrylic. Made to order for you, in your colours.
