Muybridge began photographing horses in California in 1872 to answer a simple question: at a gallop, are all four hooves ever off the ground at once? His cameras showed that they are, and the answer made him famous. This later plate, made at the University of Pennsylvania between 1883 and 1886, runs a rider across two rows side on and adds a third row from the front, so the gait can be read from both directions. It was printed as a collotype for Animal Locomotion in 1887. The Metropolitan Museum of Art holds it and releases it into the public domain. A classic for a study or an office. Printed to order at gallery scale in its own fixed palette.
Printed on 200 gsm enhanced matte art paper using archival pigment inks (giclée process). Framed prints use a classic moulded gallery frame in your chosen colour finish; the glazing is shatter-resistant acrylic. Made to order for you, in your colours.
