The wrestler fills the sheet from top to bottom, leaning into the step with his arms loose, the heavy embroidered apron worn for the ring-entering ceremony hanging in front of him and his name brushed boldly down the left side. Katsukawa Shuntei made the portrait of Hiodoshi Katsugoro between 1811 and 1814, when prints of star wrestlers sold much as sports cards do now. It is a full colour woodblock print on paper, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art holds this impression and releases it into the public domain. It gives an office or den a generous dose of personality. Printed to order at gallery scale in its own fixed palette.
Printed on 200 gsm enhanced matte art paper using archival pigment inks (giclée process). Framed prints use a classic moulded gallery frame in your chosen colour finish; the glazing is shatter-resistant acrylic. Made to order for you, in your colours.
