The plate is all rhythm: two rows of dark figures cross a light backdrop, running in, gathering, lifting off over a small stool and landing, the long skirt swinging with every phase. Eadweard Muybridge photographed it at the University of Pennsylvania between 1884 and 1886, using a line of cameras fired in quick succession, and it appeared in Animal Locomotion in 1887. The strong contrast makes it one of the most graphic sheets in the whole series. The Metropolitan Museum of Art holds the plate and releases it into the public domain. Its long, low format suits the space above a sofa or a bench. Printed to order at gallery scale in its own fixed palette.
Printed on 200 gsm enhanced matte art paper using archival pigment inks (giclée process). Framed prints use a classic moulded gallery frame in your chosen colour finish; the glazing is shatter-resistant acrylic. Made to order for you, in your colours.
