A single green grapefruit floats alone on a field of warm cream, painted so plainly it turns modern. The most minimal sheet in the collection.

Nothing else is on the sheet: one round grapefruit, Citrus paradisi, painted in dense mottled greens with a stub of stem, and a great expanse of cream paper around it. The restraint is what makes it feel contemporary; hung today it reads closer to a modern still life than a government record. It comes from the US Department of Agriculture's pomological watercolour programme, which between 1886 and 1942 set artists to documenting fruit varieties in faithful watercolour, and like a number of plates in the collection it carries no artist's name. The sheet is preserved in the USDA National Agricultural Library, now in the public domain. It suits a kitchen, a bathroom, or any room that likes its art quiet. Printed to order at gallery scale in its own fixed palette.
Printed on 200 gsm enhanced matte art paper using archival pigment inks (giclée process). Framed prints use a classic molded gallery frame in your chosen color finish; the glazing is shatter-resistant acrylic. Made to order for you, in your colors.
