About this print
The blossom sits in pale clouds against teal water and deep evening blue, with small figures drifting along the bank the way crowds still do in cherry season. Gotenyama, the hill above Shinagawa, was one of Edo's favorite blossom-viewing spots, and Utagawa Hiroshige drew its spring crowds more than once. This woodblock print impression is held in the Metropolitan Museum of Art's open-access collection, now in the public domain. Its cool blues and soft pinks settle a bedroom beautifully, and it brings a living room or hallway a note of season without sweetness. Pair it with pale timber, linen, and one good vase. Printed to order at gallery scale in its own fixed palette.
